Living on the East Coast means each day begins with the sun rising over the ocean. Because of this, the very best beach adventures begin before dawn. Truly, there’s no better way to start the day than by watching the sun paint the sky brilliant shades of gold and pink as it comes up over the horizon. There’s also no better reason to wake up early than going for an adventure with your dog!
We chose the Cape Cod National Seashore for Pippi’s beach adventure because it’s one of the few beaches that allows dogs year round. It also happens to be one of the prettiest beaches on the Cape! Pippi’s family made the trip to Wellfleet the day before so they would be ready to great the dawn the next morning.
We met at the beach during twilight, just as night was starting to become day. Pippi was ready to go, so we went right down to see the ocean. She had some fun watching the waves, but I think her most favorite part of the trip was chasing seagulls.
We did convince her to pause for a moment just as the sun came up over the horizon. The view was breathtaking, but even better than the sunrise was the silhouette of Pippi’s adorable ears. She’s just too cute!
One of the best things about being on the beach before sunrise is how quiet it is. We had the entire beach to ourselves (except for the seals and seagulls)! There was so much space for Pippi to run and play. Who’d have thought we could have a whole beach to ourselves on the Cape during the summer? The best moments in life sometimes take a little extra effort to get there, but the reward is worth it a thousand times over. Watching Pippi run along her very own beach was absolutely priceless.
After a morning spent frolicking on the beach, Pippi was ready to head back into town to find a place for breakfast. She led the way back down the path to the cars. I think she earned her pancakes!
